Kovel Agreements

We are experienced in working with Law firms under Kovel Agreements.

Kovel agreements are typically an arrangement between an attorney, a Tax Expert (typically an Enrolled Agent or US Tax Court Practitioner) and the client. The Kovel engagement letter must provide each party’s role, particularly that the tax expert’s work generally will be performed under the direction of the attorney. The Kovel agreement can extend the attorney-client privilege to a tax expert’s communications that were “made in confidence for the purpose of obtaining legal advice.

Tax Representation and Resolution

Have you received a Notice of Audit and Examination Scheduled from the IRS? An IRS audit is a review of an organization’s or individual’s accounts to ensure information is being reported correctly. Ignoring an audit usually means the IRS files your return for you and you end up paying much more. An IRS audit is a serious situation, but with experienced help most tax difficulties can be resolved.

Many tax problems become complicated because of the procedures that IRS and state tax personnel must follow. A lack of understanding of these procedures and relevant tax law can make resolutions more difficult and may even infringe upon the Taxpayer’s Rights.
